David Schlotthauer
30 · Weather Forecaster
I'm David Schlotthauer, a 30-year-old professional weather forecaster covering tropical systems, winter storms, and severe weather across the United States. I started this channel because I kept watching weather coverage lean harder into drama than into the actual science — and I thought there was room for something different.
Why "Reliable, Honest, Life Saving"
Those three words aren't a slogan I picked because they sounded good together — they're the standard I hold every video, post, and forecast to:
- Reliable — grounded in the same models, data, and official products that professional meteorologists use, explained clearly instead of buried in jargon.
- Honest — when the forecast is uncertain, I say so. I'm not going to manufacture urgency for a system that doesn't warrant it, and I'm not going to undersell one that does.
- Life Saving — the whole point of this coverage is to help people make better decisions before, during, and after severe weather. That only works if the first two hold up.
What I cover
The channel focuses on three areas: tropical systems from formation through landfall, winter storms including ice, snow, and arctic outbreaks, and severe weather— tornadoes, damaging wind, and thunderstorm outlooks. Every long-form breakdown on the blog is meant to build your understanding of how these systems work, not just tell you what's coming.
What this channel is not
I'm not a replacement for your local National Weather Service office, and I never want to be treated as one. Everything here — the videos, the blog, the on-air commentary — is independent analysis and education. For official watches, warnings, and life-safety decisions, that authority sits with theNational Weather Serviceand NOAA, every time. See theTerms & Conditions for the full disclaimer.
